CES gadget showcase: Magnadyne power flashlight

08 Jan

SAMSUNG CSCNot every gadget at the Consumer Electronics Show is glitzy and glamourous, but that doesn’t make them less useful – and therefore, less cool.

Magnadyne’s new flashlight looks like something cobbled together by some crazed garage tinkerer, but it could very well save lives. Not only is it a flashlight, it’s also a car battery jump-starter, as should be evident by the cables coming out of its bottom in the photo above.

The flashlight, which goes on sale in the next few weeks at a price of $150, houses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that packs enough juice to restart a dead car battery.

And of course, it also has all the standard features of an emergency flashlight, such as the blinking beacon function.

It’s admittedly a strange gizmo to notice amid the cornucopia of technology that is CES, but with the reports of chillingly cold weather back home that I’ve been getting from my wife, I’m perhaps more aware than usual of the need for such emergency tools. I’ll certainly be on the lookout for Magnadyne’s flashlight when I get back to the frozen north.
